Around the decade of WWII, the plantations started to fail and the Chinese population started to move out; they were replaced by the Malay community. Around the 1960s, the public housing authority Housing and Development Board started to construct high rise apartments. By the 1980s, the transformation of this area from distinctly rural to a modern residential area was completel. Light industrial properties were also created.
In the foreground, some empty space belonging (most likely) to the government. Behind that is a gantry of Singapore MRT system. Behind are office blocks in the upper floors, shopping space in the lower floors and a host of other facilities such as gym, cinema and food courts.
