Ride to Geylang 3

Around the decade of WWII, the plantations started to fail and the Chinese population started to move out; they were replaced by the Malay community. Around the 1960s, the public housing authority Housing and Development Board started to construct high rise apartments. By the 1980s, the transformation of this area from distinctly rural to a modern residential area was completel. Light industrial properties were also created.

In the foreground, some empty space belonging (most likely) to the government. Behind that is a gantry of Singapore MRT system. Behind are office blocks in the upper floors, shopping space in the lower floors and a host of other facilities such as gym, cinema and food courts.

Ce sont des formes très modernes.
Ayush Basu: These are some of the newer and fancier buildings, Martine.
A cool looking building!
And I love the conflicting clouds in your video!
Ayush Basu: I am pleased you liked the video, Elizabeth.
This is a most impressive building Ayush, great video.

A strangely attractive monster!
Ayush Basu: Yes, at times it is hard to make sense of some building aesthetics, Ray.

This is adventurous architecture Ayush
Ayush Basu: I think Singapore aims to be bold in terms of building aesthetics and the skylines, Chris.
Not only modern, Ayush, but kinda Sci-Fi, too. I wonder if that top section right of center is like someone's penthouse apartment (though the ceiling would be way too high, so maybe an atrium of sorts)?
Ayush Basu: If I am correct, this is an office space building in its entirety Ginnie, and I agree it has a strong sci-fi feel to it.

That is quite the architecture, Ayush. In what part of Singapore do you live?
Ayush Basu: I pass by this building quite often on my bike, but only recently made some photographs of it, Astrid. I live in the east, close to the airport and that is where the flights of the video are headed to.

A mighty example of High Tech architecture Ayush.

quite the change from plantations! i love those videos you make, Ayush!
Ayush Basu: I get excited by results of time-lapse videos but it is quite some time and effort in making, Elaine, so I get rather lazy at times.
Almost a little town in its own.
Ayush Basu: Indeed, I think the builders have crammed various facilities to make it easier for people to spend their money on site, Brian!

Very modern. In that time=lapse, the planes shoot by like arrows.
Ayush Basu: Yes, I like the sped up effect of time-lapse, Louis. My intention is to make a timelapse of a bike ride and compress something around 20 minutes of a bike ride to under 1 minute of video.

Great time-lapse. Like Louis, I was fascinated by the planes
Ayush Basu: This park is close to the east (and the airport), Lisl, not too far off from where I live.
A dramatic building Ayush that is somehow both heartless and soulless
Ayush Basu: These are some of the newer and fancier buildings, Bill. I confess I have less understanding of building aesthetics.
Very futuristic looking, Ayush! smile

you could launch a rocket on that pad! cool building!
Ayush Basu: It certainly is eye catching.
Now there's a thought indeed, CrashRyan smile
wow, cool building . . .
Ayush Basu: It is indeed, Rob.

I like the staircases on the buildings; they would make for a good lunchtime workout.
Ayush Basu: I noticed that some people use that space for smoking if they are not willing to exit the building altogether, Alan. Talk about 'fresh' air!
what amazing architecture Ayush... i like the curves in the construction....
loved your video of the time lapsed images of the beach and the action along the shore....petersmile
Ayush Basu: Singapore does like their bold and eye catching architecture, Peter. I am pleased you liked the video. I intend to make some more.
Very modern meccano like!
Ayush Basu: Yes, it is amazing how architects get inspiration for conceiving something like that, Tom.
