The late 1980s also marked the start of architectural conservation in Singapore. What that means is, conserved buildings are now legally protected from unauthorised modifications and demolition. They include mainly two-storey shophouses Art Deco styles, places of worship for different faiths and in general, preserve a historic flavour.
Not all shophouses are this gaily painted in diverse colours. This building certainly attracts a lot of people for photo opportunities and features a lot on Instagram.
