It is also a time for a thorough clean up job, the assumption being that it is possible to sweep away any ill-fortune and make way for incoming good luck and fortune. In general, all 'gold' coloured fruits are widely seen - oranges, tangerines, persimmon and so on.

This is from Singapore's Chinatown.

This wider view is fabulous, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: I was able to find a nice vantage point from the second level, Ray.
This is when one might say "more Chinese you cannot get," Ayush, right?! smile
Ayush Basu: Yes, that is a nice way to put it - very apt.

If everybody gets lucky then no one gets lucky, that is how I see it Ayush. I love the rich colours here
Ayush Basu: You are right of course, Chris. People follow the customs what they believe, but in the end I imagine there is no significant connection to their fortunes.
This is a great shot Ayush. It really shows the vibrance of the occasion
Ayush Basu: I was able to find a nice vantage point from the second level, Bill.
i wonder what the celebration did with the coronavirus!! shocking stats out today! it's a great picture though, Ayush!
Ayush Basu: Yes, it has dampened the spirits in Singapore especially people also remember the SARS episode.

I’d happily make space or some good luck to come in Ayush.
Ayush Basu: I agree it is a good approach for the mental state, Chad.

I really love this view, Ayush. Wonderful colours.
Ayush Basu: Yes, I was able to find a good vantage spot upstairs, Astrid.
Lots to look at in this shot Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Yes, I got a good vantage point to set up this scene, Brian.
A great overview Ayush, so colourful.
Ayush Basu: And I could avoid the elbow to elbow crowd, Frank grin
I certainly like the colour of Chinese New Year. It is craved at that time of the year.
Ayush Basu: Yes, it does look like a sea of red and scarlet, Care.

The year of the rat. I think this is the first time I see rodents there on the wall.
Ayush Basu: They have these animal years in cycles of 12 years, Louis. So they all have to bide their time.
A great vibrant shot, Ayush and I was admiring those shutter doors above the shops smile
Ayush Basu: It is a remnant from the decades past, Martin - I believe they were used to haul (pulley) in heavy goods directly from the street level rather than have them manually carried over stairs.
this is a good point of view Ayush... there is so much to see in this colourful market....petersmile
Ayush Basu: Yes, I got a good vantage point to set up this scene, Peter, and also avoided the throngs of people.
A wonderful capture of this complex environment, Ayush... smile
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Sudipto, the vantage point helped.
so colorful!
Ayush Basu: I am pleased you liked the colours, Larry.
