Barcelona Metro

This shot was taken when I was changing connecting trains on the Barcelona metro. I was impressed with this extensive network of underground rapid transit that connects central Barcelona and to the city's suburbs. It consists of 12 lines and there are more works in progress, all the way up to 2026.

always love candid scenes like this
Ayush Basu: I try to get a few shots of trains and stations whenever I visit a new place, Sherri.
It looks bright and clean!
Ayush Basu: And functional too, Elizabeth.

A fine modern system Ayush
Ayush Basu: It seemed well utilized by the public, Chris.
Underground trains are a fine way to get around a city quickly
Ayush Basu: I prefer them to buses or taxis, Bill.

The lady in front looks quite interested in the train or the driver.
Ayush Basu: She was on the phone and absentmindedly kept walking around in circles, Chad.
Looks like a lady driver on the train, good for her.
Ayush Basu: Yes, you are right, Brian.
Underground is the way,to ease the congestion in Cities
Ayush Basu: I think/hope most metropolitan cities around the world recognize their need, Martin.
I'm a regular traveller on our Metro system. I find it the best way to get around without the hassle of trying to find a parking space for your car. Barcelona's metro looks to be up-to-date and well cared for.
Ayush Basu: I try to get a few shots of trains and stations whenever I visit a new place, Beverly, and I agree with your observation.
One has to be wary of the pickpockets on the Barcelona metro - it has a very bad reputation.
Ayush Basu: Oh, I did not know that, Tom. I had no untoward incident.
Un bon moyen de locomotion en ville.
Ayush Basu: I agree, Martine. Merci.
Any metro like this impresses me, Ayush!
Ayush Basu: It was probably not the neatest but it was certainly effective and functional, Ginnie.

I wonder if it gets as crowded as our Underground
Ayush Basu: By default, I believe all metropolitan rapid transits get absolutely packed at least in the morning and evening rush hours, Lisl. I imagine the train operators also time the frequencies in order to get maximum utilization out of their fleet.

Like Paris, Barcelona has a great Metro system to go from one place to the other. I like the slightly move of the incoming metro, Ayush
Ayush Basu: I like it when all big cities invest in these systems rather than individual cars crowding around in city centers, Astrid. I try to get a few shots of trains and stations whenever I visit a new place.

I expect that they have learnt much from the pioneering work of the London Underground systems. Alas, we sinoeem t have lost our way and the new Crossrail link is some two years behind schedules and millions over budget. Does the information board actually say "Proper Tren"?
Ayush Basu: Good question: I think it meant the arrival of the next train.
It is certainly quite a big project, being over 100km. Management of such projects must bring challenges of a whole different level.
i love tube stations! at least some of them... some seem more beautiful architecturally than others... nice shot, Ayush!
Ayush Basu: You are right, Elaine. I try to get a few shots of trains and stations whenever I visit a new place.

I make use of Metro systems during my travels. All the systems are not the same and can be confusing, even with a map. I remember in Paris that I bought a new ticket, with every change of line. That is until I started noticing things and could improve my using. From then on, I try to read up (for specials) and then spent some time, just looking at what was going on. I refer to it as decluttering. There is such a lot of info on those systems and people are rushing. Just stand back, get the brain to distinguish commercial rubbish from worthwhile directions. Then the going is good. Helped me a lot in Hong Kong - who also has a very good public transport system.

Just remember that I come from a country without Metro rail systems. Although I am sure we can use it.
Ayush Basu: I completely agree with your point, Louis. There are sometimes more than one way to accomplish something. With my bike and the public transport, I am essentially well covered for transport in Singapore - quite safe to see that I will never own a car here.
