Mass Rapid Transport in Singapore 1

Singapore has invested in mass rapid transport since the 1980s. The first train rolled off 1987 and today there are five lines, with more under planning. The recent line that was completed is known as the Downtown Line and was nothing short of an engineering feat. One spot in particular, had the tunnel of the DTL passing close by, or rather above the existing North East Line tunnel 1 meter. The continuation of this DTL tunnel elsewhere also crossed below the North-South and Circle lines, 8 and 3 meters respectively.

This is a fine image, Ayush. It appears to be well provisioned with hanging straps.
Ayush Basu: They want to increase the ferrying capacity so standing provisions are increased, Ray.
C'est très fréquenté.
Ayush Basu: Rush hours are indeed busy, Martine.
Having no car now when I visit the U.K. I quite enjoy trips on transport like this.
Ayush Basu: No fun in rush hour, Frank smile Luckily I do not take the train as much these days as I am trying to build in my bike instead.
It sounds like quite a feat!
Ayush Basu: I am quite fascinated by railway transportation in general so I found it interesting, Elizabeth.
Clearly, you're moving right along, Ayush! smile
Ayush Basu: The transport authority certainly has got a good vision, Ginnie. And since I got back from Holland, I am sticking to cycling! grin

Good mass transit is something every conurbation should have Ayush. So this is good
Ayush Basu: In general, rail transportation projects from anywhere in the world fascinate me, Chris.

Public transportation is very important and it looks like they know what they are doing. It is amazing how they can make it work. Also in Amsterdam they finished a new line (Noord-Zuid lijn) that was quite the challenge too.
Ayush Basu: I do like the railway industry, especially the rolling stock because of the possibilities in mechanical engineering. Since I got back from Holland, I am sticking to cycling, Astrid!

The engineering feat in digging these tunnels is quite incredible. I dread travelling on the London Underground as it is so hot and crowded.
Ayush Basu: It is not hot in the air-conditioned coaches but it gets rather crowded on weekday rush hours, Alan. In recent times, my bike has replaced the train (for me) on some occasions.

They were wise to invest in this form of transport Ayush, every large city needsit.
Ayush Basu: I completely agree, Chad.
great shot!! public transportation gives me anxiety tho haha
Ayush Basu: It gets worse during rush hours, Elaine! grin
The skill of engineers is amazing. A great picture of everyday life Ayush

The way these people are hanging, sitting, chatting, etc - reminds me a lot of my Honk Kong experience.
Ayush Basu: It gets much worse during weekday rush hours, just as in Hong Kong, Louis.
A fine shot Ayush. They are still building underground lines in London and in places there is only a few feet between one tunnel and another, the skill of the engineers is amazing.
Ayush Basu: I found it amazing how much precision those giant Tunnel Boring Machines are able to achieve, Brian.
Fine engineering!
Ayush Basu: A few more shots to come, Tom.
