Lantau Island is the largest island in Hong Kong, located at the north-western part of Hong Kong. The top is also home to the Po Lin Monastery and the Tian Tan Buddha. A cable car runs from Tung Chun, over eight pylons and forms a 25 minute aerial ride. The Tian Tan Buddha, a large bronze statue of the Buddha Shakyamuni, was completed in 1993 and is located at the peak of Lantau Island. First we visited the Po Lin Monastery and were almost rooted on the spot by a stunning prayer pavilion. However, photography was not permitted inside. After a while, we made our way up the steps to the upper platform.
