The authorities will be laying a new major water pipeline from central Singapore to the city area underneath the Rail Corridor from 2016-2019. At first, several segments were up in arms after hearing of this report. Subsequently, they felt that although the water pipeline construction work on the Rail Corridor will cause short-term disruption, it would actually help to ensure the long-term future of the corridor, since no major developments would then be permitted on top of the pipeline. This implies a continuous green corridor maintained well in to the future (well, 50~100 years at least). An Environmental Impact Assessment is on the cards and alternative public access will be provided along the corridor to minimise disruption.
