2019 Singapore Writers Festival - 3

I had the chance to shoot some events for the Singapore Writer's Festival 2019. They all centered in venues in Singapore's Arts District, which basically houses galleries and museums. I was available only for a day out of ten days of events that consist of talks, debates, book signing and other cultural events on the fringe. A lot of book titles were also made available, specially those released recently and some of the authors were on hand to promote them. Not only books and written media, other contemporary formats received focus. These gentlemen here are discussing podcasts, how much work goes behind creating them, how they manage the real content and the marketting/funding that comes behind. I have to say it seemed a lot of work with a bit of uncertainty and I would not have the confidence that I could pay my monthly bills, if I engaged in such an activity as my main/only source of livelihood. The chap on the extreme right is a moderator for this chat.

It must have been interesting to photograph this event Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Quite some lively discussion too, Frank.
A very nice shot, Ayush! What a fascinating event to be a part of!
Ayush Basu: Yes, it was quite unusual compared to what I had in mind, Elizabeth.

I wonder what sort of things they actually do write?
Ayush Basu: They pick up some random topic perhaps based on recent political news or some technological advancement with some social impact, Chris.
I really love how much you're getting around, Ayush!
Ayush Basu: There is always something interesting going around, Ginnie.

This must have been a joy to walk around and listen to all the conversations and look at all the books. This is a world on it's own I think. It would also no be my job, every time not knowing if I can pay the bills. But then, if your passion and your heart is in writing, just give it a go....
Ayush Basu: Yes, there was a lot of interesting discussion going around, Astrid. The long haired guy second from the left also said something like that - he is actually a professor of literary writing.

Interesting, Ayush. We have what's called "The Bath literary Festival" for a week every year, when authors come to talk and promote their books. It is very good
Ayush Basu: I imagine it is a thought provoking meet, Lisl.
Ils ont l'air tous attentionnés.
Ayush Basu: Lively discussion there, Martine.
I am not really into podcasts and have never actually listened to or watched one. It is the same with all these Vloggers and influencers.

I'm all for a good book though smile
Ayush Basu: The influencers are definitely not a bunch I look up to as a viable career choice, Bill.

I'm always staggered at people who make money from blogs, vlogs and such like. I wish I'd had those ideas and the skills to carry it out.
Ayush Basu: I did listen to a couple of podcasts some time back; it was convenient in the morning listening to something as I got ready for work and all, Alan.

Good to know that there is a lovely cultural scene in Singapore Ayush.
Ayush Basu: There are quite a number of events taking place in Singapore, Chad.
they appear to be interesting chaps smile nice shot!
Ayush Basu: And they had interesting things to say, Elaine - well they said a lot of things that I was not aware of.
I bet this was an interesting event to visit. I often wonder how authors manage to make a living from week to week.
Ayush Basu: It was indeed thought provoking about the variety of subjects discussed and people creating podcasts as a viable source of income was quite new to me, Brian.

looks like quite a discussion
Ayush Basu: There was a lively and engaging conversation about this subject, Sherri.
Interesting image and comment, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Then I hope you will continue to look into the rest of the series, Tom.
A nice shot Ayush........I think this would've been an interesting talk smile
