Transport by Air 3

To strengthen the marine clay (which is basically in most of Singapore's foundation), the first step is to drain the water out. This is accomplished by inserting large numbers of straw like parts into the soil and compressing the soil from the top. This also compacts the soil sufficiently to handle the weight and thrust of the runways and aircrafts. 20,000 workers are already engaged in it to realize this project by 2030. There is also foresight to leave allowance in metro construction plans - a newly metro line being built, and scheduled to open in 2024, will have the provision of having a stop at the new terminal, allowing seamless public transport.

An excellent image, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Ray.
what a project!
Ayush Basu: It is indeed massive and ambitious, Ryan.

This is quite a queue of planes waiting to land, if you look carefully Ayush. The fishermen don't seem too bothered
Ayush Basu: Quite right, Chris. It is busy at almost all times of the day.

I am fascinated, yet surprised, that straw would be sufficient for this critical job Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Well it is a kind of engineering plastic, the straw itself does not have to bear any load except let the excess water flow out, Chad.

This is a great picture. Great visionary planning. I mean 2030 is far away.
Ayush Basu: They really want to be in time to make returns on their investment, Louis.
I love love love these twilight colours, Ayush!!
Ayush Basu: I love them too, Elaine. Too bad I did not visit this place that frequently in recent years.
What engineering to figure that one out. I like the blue hour scene.
Ayush Basu: I hung around for some time at that spot and got quite a number of shots in the changing light, Mary.
This is clearly a major project. I hope it fares better than HS2 in the UK which is now way over budget and will be years late...if it happens at all
Ayush Basu: They really want to be in time to make returns on their investment, Bill.
A fine shot and interesting notes, your government is very proactive it seems which is more than can be said for ours at the moment!
Ayush Basu: They really want to be in time to make returns on their investment, Brian.
Good Heavens... what a job that must be! I like your photo with the people fishing and the woman taking a photo (I presume)
Ayush Basu: It seems quite a number of people like angling around this part, Elizabeth. The airport job is ambitious in its scope.
I wonder how Singapore is planning for the oceans rising?
Ayush Basu: They are getting started now on the policy and funding, Tom.

Excellent photo. The information about stabilizing the marine clay is fascinating.
Ayush Basu: They do a lot of soil testing and invite experts to make analysis and recommendations, CP.
