It was in my last month in the Netherlands and I chanced upon these birds preparing to land in the Maas River.

A beautiful capture, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: I am pleased with your response, Ray.
Que c'est beau toutes ces oies en vol.
Ayush Basu: You are right about that, Martine.
Perhaps they were coming to bid you good-bye! Wonderful shot, Ayush! You were quick with the shutter!
Ayush Basu: It was quite a sight to see them in that formation, Elizabeth
Leading the way for your trip back home, Ayush?? smile
Ayush Basu: Yes, Ginnie - although I do admit that I would have liked to hang around for some more grin

This is such a wonderful picture, Ayush. I keep looking at the relaxed pose of the birds, all spread out like they are floating in the air, using the thermics. This is also a sign that "Spring is in the air"....
Ayush Basu: I was thrilled to see them smoothly descending into the water, as you also saw in the next post, Astrid.

I am fascinated wondering how a bird becomes leader Ayush.
Ayush Basu: I remember reading somewhere that they have a rotating leadership, Chad.
Birds in formation are a wonderful sight Ayush
Ayush Basu: It was thrilling in a way actually, Bill.
are those canada geese? i can't quite tell... they seem to be having a better time over there lol... great catch, Ayush!
Ayush Basu: I would have no clue, Elaine! Thank you.
Nicely caught Ayush. Thats what I'm doing, watching birds on the river.
Ayush Basu: I was pleased I was there that time, Frank.

Honk, honk! Make space below! Great shot. Chad's comment about the leader, has me wondering now...
Ayush Basu: The leader is, what I remember reading some time back, a bit of a sacrificial flyer, as the ones flying behind in the formation benefit from reduced drag and therefore, the leadership is rotated among all birds. Overall benefit is that some species of migratory birds can cover thousands of kilometers in one stretch, without stopping for refuelling, Louis.
You couldn't have asked for them to be in a better composition Ayush.
Ayush Basu: I am pleased to have caught them like this, Brian.
great shot to bring the migrating geese in that close Ayush....petersmile
Ayush Basu: I am glad I hung around there, Peter.
Love the formation Ayush!
Ayush Basu: They really cheered me up, Martin.
