NTUC or National Trades Union Congress. Singapore in the 1950s used to witness much violent protests and strikes. The high point was the Hock Lee Bus Riots of 1955. Since then, there was much more attention paid to the trade unions. Although there was a unified trade union, there were several factions within. A new trade union house was founded in 1962 (at 7 Shenton Way) and completed in 1965. The view seen in this picture is however, the new premises on Bras Basah Road, where NTUC relocated in 2000.
