Transport by Air 4

There are also a fair number of sceptics - some are questioning if the air travel industry has not already matured, and if so, will this terminal not end up to be a white elephant. Competition is also fierce in the ASEAN region and the Middle East, (Dubai also plans to expand its handling operations). Furthermore, such mega projects have a long gestation period, which makes it almost impossible to predict the financial returns and viability.

Jolie photo, j'aime l'ambiance.
Ayush Basu: It was very nice in the early morning hours, Martine.
It is amazing how air travel has gone from a glamorous way to travel, to an arduous means of transport, unless you are mega rich of course...
Ayush Basu: That is indeed true, especially considering how air stewards were perceived a couple of decades ago and now, Frank.

The future is very difficult to see Ayush. I like the muted colours here
Ayush Basu: At the moment, I think the planners have got it right but time will tell, Chris. I loved the sky to.
It is like HS2 here Ayush. A feeling that we are addressing yesterday's needs.
Ayush Basu: I would like to think the Changi Airport planners have gotten it right, but of course, time will tell, Bill.
A fine shot Ayush, you have waited to get the plane in an ideal spot.
Ayush Basu: You are very kind with your comment, Brian.

Planning can only be done on information that we currently have.
Ayush Basu: That is right, CP.

That plane makes the picture here, Ayush. Wonderful colours here.
Ayush Basu: Very kind of you to say so, Astrid. I was lucky with my timing and the weather that morning.
In images like this you'd think there couldn't possibly be any worry at all about anything, Ayush!
Ayush Basu: Thank you for that profound statement, Ginnie, and I think you are right indeed - I had a peaceful time that early morning, with my companion.

Ayush Basu: Worth waking up early on a weekend morning, Elaine!

Dubai has a lot of money to waste...

The air travel industry matured? With cars, etc we have a view of e-cars to come and maybe travelling on the roads will become automated. Trains are well on their e-way and ships could go electric or back to sails - of course not canvas sails. But I haven't read or heard of anything that will replace flying as a long distance speedy solution. My guess is that there is another 30-40 years in air travel.

I think we can do better to simplify terminals. That will take some redesign of current processes, but that can be done.

But your picture is a great one. Like in the old cowboy movies, when the hero rides away into the sunset smile
Ayush Basu: Actually, what I understand that behind the scenes, most of the money comes from the other emirates, Abu Dhabi, for instance.
I recall in my early childhood, most of the airlines were usually only the national carriers, because of the high barriers to enter the industry. But in the past decade or so, the number of airlines mushroomed - China has 9 state backed, India has about 15 (a mix of full service and budget airlines). And currently, slowly but steadily, the competition is starting to filter out the inefficient ones....
I liked this shot/place/time too, Louis. I should get out there more often.
i agree with your statement about all of the competition Ayush... i love the sky the peoples on the beach the jet in this photo....petersmile

I seem to recall they were beach combing, perhaps looking for marine life in the early hours, Peter.
The same arguments are going on here, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: I hope that all the talk does lead to something and not inaction, Tom.
