Based on the scripture of arts (Shilpa Shastra) and scripture of science (Vastu Shastra), the capital city of Jaipur was conceived by the architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. It was named after its founder, Jai Singh II, who was looking for an alternative to his then water shortage-stricken capital. Jaipur is also significant for the three sizable forts of hulking proportions in a relatively small area (the Amber Fort also being a UNESCO heritage site).
