photoblog image Palazzo Senatorio, Rome

Palazzo Senatorio, Rome

Around the Piazza del Campidoglio is the Palazzo Senatorio, the Palace of the Senators. Originally built in the 11th century as a fortress, it was rebuilt several times in the centuries in between and the current design is a slightly adapted version of the sixteenth century design by Michelangelo. The grand staircase leading up to the Palazzo bears the statues on either side of the Nile (left) and the Tiber (right). Michelangelo died in 1564 so he did not see the realization of his vision. Today the City Hall opccupies a place here.

What a magnificent building, Ayush
Ayush Basu: It is something hard to pass by without stopping to appreciate, Lisl.

I love the precise symmetry of the building, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: I think that is what drove me to get the head-on shot, Ray.

Very impressive and imposing building Ayush. I note that they had no rules about disabled access when they built this.
Ayush Basu: I suppose between bouts of systematically throwing men to the lions and gladiatorial bouts, they did not come around to thinking about making this place easy for some people, Chad.
It actually looks like a city hall, Ayush, doesn't it!
Ayush Basu: I totally agree with you, Ginnie. Completely makes sense!
A very fine building Ayush

I can just wonder, whether the two people taking pictures at the right, made pictures half as good as yours.
Ayush Basu: Perhaps they saw something I did not, Louis grin
A very fine building isn't it, you were lucky there were only a few people about and not large crowds for your photo.
Ayush Basu: I have to admit I was lucky; some of the other touristy places were bursting at the seams, Brian.

A fine sturdy building
Ayush Basu: Yes, those blocks certainly give that impression, Martin.
A grand edifice, in a pleasing yellow...
Ayush Basu: You are right, I liked the colour scheme too, Larry

It has that majestic look like a town hall should look...love the POV. Can you imagine that married couples are walking the stairs (I assume)
Ayush Basu: I did not think of it but I can visualize it indeed, Astrid. Thank you for that remark.
Très jolie bâtisse et la compo à  l'UGA est très sympa.
Bonne journée
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Pascale.

So much history here. I can just imagine a few public addresses from the balcony.
Ayush Basu: I like your visualization, Alan.
Le patrimoine de Rome est somptueux !
Merci
Ayush Basu: I think we can all agree to that, Claudine.
A handsome staircase!
Ayush Basu: An excellent element in the overall scheme of things, Tom, i.m.o.
