Molen van Verbeek 2

With the advent of the industrial revolution, an electric motor was added to boost productivity of the mill. The transmission makes use of a leather belt in conjunction with two mating bevel gears. The mill was lucky in the sense that it escaped being bombed during WWII (possibly because it is comparatively inwards from the river Maas - the border between the then Dutch and Germans). There was however some minor damage, which was repaired in 1945-46.

I love the woodwork inside of a windmill, Ayush. So much to see.
Ayush Basu: I liked this place too, Astrid. It was not very clean and one may hope the output from this mill is not used at bakeries. But it was still a fine place to visit and spend some time.

I love the way those teeth mesh together Ayush.
Ayush Basu: I like bevel gears too and am told that for them, tolerance requirements are tighter compared to other types of gears, Chad.

AAahha... proper engineering. Its difficult to tell from this but are the cogs wooden?
Ayush Basu: I think those gears would be cast iron, Alan. Rest everything is wooden.
All handmade I suppose.
Ayush Basu: I think those gears would be cast iron, Mary.

It is lovely to see the workmanship
Ayush Basu: It is certainly quite a well thought out place, Anne.
i still love all the cogs and gears in this mill Ayush... you have an excellent point of view in this shot....petersmile
Ayush Basu: I was lucky and had an easy job photographing this place, Peter.
It is in a very good state
Ayush Basu: Oh yes, it works well and it was actually a later addition, Martin.
Good detail shot, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Tom.
Impressionnant rouage .. belle photo
Ayush Basu: This was a later addition, Claudine, and it still works.
Doesn't seem quite right to have an electric motor Ayush grin
Ayush Basu: I share that sentiment, Bill, unfortunately when the commercialize the production of grains to a high degree, they cannot afford to sit around for less/no wind.
very 'steampunk' these mills are smile
Ayush Basu: I like your adjective, Elaine.

So they built a DAF gearbox into the mill smile
Ayush Basu: Or used the inspiration from this into a DAF, Louis grin
Love it. A great look at the inner workings.
Ayush Basu: I hope to continue to show some more of the interiors, Michael.
