Molen van Verbeek 1

The Molen van Verbeek of St. Odiliënberg is a stone grain mill in Sint Odiliënberg, a municipality of Roerdalen, in the Dutch province of Limburg . A belt mill (standing on a natural or artificially raised hill) was built in 1883 to replace the previous grondzeiler (operated from the ground) mill, which burned down in 1882.

It is a wonderful contraption, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: I am still only getting familiar with the various types of mills and this is the one that I see most in this part of the Netherlands, Ray.
This mill being built on a hill makes the other structures small in comparison, Ayush. A fine example indeed.
Ayush Basu: Ensures that it still catches enough wind provided the other houses are no taller, Beverly.
Très beau et superbement conservé.
Bonne journée Ayush
Ayush Basu: There are over 1000 of these preserved in the Netherlands now, Pascale. Merci!

This is a structure that is both attractive and useful Ayush
Ayush Basu: In perfect working condition, Chris.
Très beau et complétement différent du précédent.
Ayush Basu: Well observed, Martine.

The shape of these things is wonderful Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Quite an attractive form dotting the landscape in the past, I would like to think.
The sails sit very close to the ground on this one.
Ayush Basu: Good observation. That is what limits how high it can catch the wind at the top, Mary.
A very handsome windmill Ayush
Ayush Basu: Yes, I tend to see this kind of structure more in the southern Netherlands, Bill.
Another beautiful Dutch windmill.
Ayush Basu: A little over thousand of them survive in the Netherlands, Brian. They were not the first to think of the windmill but they certainly engineered it thoroughly.
Very nice.
Ayush Basu: I think you could make beautiful pictures in and around here, Michael.
It always amazes me how these mills are rebuilt so quickly, Ayush. But then, I suppose it's their livelihood!
Ayush Basu: Indeed, and I was also told that several of them have actually been dismantled from elsewhere and assembled on current sites, in and around Venlo, Ginnie.
gorgeous, i would love to live in one of these and have free electricity from the wind smile
Ayush Basu: Hmm, I am not sure how comfortable it would be in winter, Elaine grin but I agree about the appeal.

That is a fine building standing over all that surrounds it.
Ayush Basu: I think there is a fair chance the no other building will dwarf it, CP.
