photoblog image Moti Mahal - Mehrangarh

Moti Mahal - Mehrangarh

The Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace) used to be the Mehrangarh’s most important durbar (or reception court). Here, noblemen, ministers, officials and other rulers/leaders would be granted audience.  The name comes from the fact that the lime plaster used had a mix of finely crushed shells, leading to a pearl like lustre, which was more obvious in the oil lamps of the old. I am not sure if that impression is conveyed in this image, but I rather liked the bold colours in the window.

I have never thought of oriental stained glass before. The colours are vivid, and I especially like the green
Ayush Basu: I think this is the only instance that I have seen, Lisl.

Man alive, I hope nobody gets colourblind here, Ayush. For some strange reason, I do think this fits though.
Ayush Basu: I think you may have a point there, Astrid. I would not live in a place with such colours but it somehow looks nice here.
Que de couleurs, c'est très beau.
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Martine. I found them beautiful too.

Interesting to learn of the crushed shell plaster mix Ayush.
Ayush Basu: I wonder if they intentionally used it or it was an accidental discovery, Chad.

This durbar reminded me of Nasir-ol-molk Mosque in Iran.

Look it up, maybe you have something like this in India too.

Only Sherazade is missing smile
