Basking

I put a brief number of Venlo shots for a bit of change but now I am going back to the desert province of Rajasthan, this time to the city of Jodhpur. This brightly coloured resident grabbed my eye.

It is a critter of great beauty, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: I was fortunate to get this shot without alarming it, Ray.
That is gorgeous. I love the colour.
Ayush Basu: I tried 'shooting' them on several occasions but they get jumpy easily, Michael.
Wow - he's beautiful! Great shot!!
Ayush Basu: On this occasion, I was fortunate to get this shot without alarming it, Elizabeth.

What a glorious looking thing - whatever it might be - Ayush
Ayush Basu: Some kind of a grasshopper (I am no expert!), Chris. All I know is that it is hard to approach them without scaring them off.
Quelle merveille ! Il est splendide et quelles couleurs.
Très jolie photo.
Bonne journée Ayush
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Pascale, and a good day to you too.

Superbe macro, j'aime beaucoup les couleurs.
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Martine!
I've not seen anything like this before, he/she has a great colour scheme.
Ayush Basu: I would have liked a front view (especially with the eyes) but could not get one, Brian.
Javanese grasshopper?
We have a lot of them in Malaysia too smile
Ayush Basu: I am not too sure of the eyes, but it could be, LC.

What an excellent way to start, Ayush
Ayush Basu: In the coming few posts, I have lesser humans and more on other life forms, Lisl.
A cricket of some kind by the looks of it. Fine shot!
Ayush Basu: I am told that this would be a grasshopper, based on the length of its antennae and the hind leg build, Tom.

oh, a fine image, but a very creepy critter
Ayush Basu: I saw a close up of their face once and they have altogether 5 eyes, Sherri. So yes, they can have a creepy appearance.
She'd grab my eye, too, Ayush. grin
Ayush Basu: Yes, her colours were appealing even though they are considered a nuisance, Ginnie.

This is a wonderful "jumper", Ayush. Love the colouring here, especially the "antennes".
Ayush Basu: Oh yes, I remember reading somewhere that their hind legs are extraordinary in letting jump to significant distances, Astrid. And scientists have studied their construction to get inspiration to build equipment based on the same principle.

you're lucky he didn't grab your nose! what with you getting that close lol neat pic!
Ayush Basu: Haha, yes, they do go nom-nom-nom on leaves so they are not too popular around here, Elaine.

With these colours, it would be a stinky, in my world.
Ayush Basu: I cannot say, Louis, but you are probably right.

What a great macro! wonderful colouring.
Ayush Basu: I loved this opportunity to shoot it, Anne.
Really very colorful, there are similar also from us, but they have camouflage colors
Ayush Basu: I am sure they are not too uncommon, Claudio.
