The Vendor

Not all are making it big on the back of tourism and IT. This fruit vendor has a mobile push cart with battery powered LED lamps and an old fashioned weighing scale, plying his trade along the main streets of Jaipur.

Great picture, but such a serious expression...
Ayush Basu: I imagine it is quite a long and tough job for something that does not have a sizable profit margin, Larry. And just like other places, prices are going up and up.
That is a really nice shot. He has a very proud look.
Ayush Basu: I imagine he is hopeful of a strong sales by the end of the day/night, Michael.

A fabulous street portrait, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: It is unlike me to shoot people normally, Ray. I am pleased I got this - thank you.
A very nice portrait, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: I asked for his consent before shooting and he was kind enough to agree, Frank.
Street journalism at its best, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Thank you very much, Ginnie. I asked for his consent before shooting and he was kind enough to agree.

If you took any more like this, Ayush, I would be very happy if you posted them!
Ayush Basu: I have recently been trying to get a bit more active on 'shooting' people, Lisl.
This is a fine portrait Ayush. He dreams that one day he will make his fortune perhaps
Ayush Basu: I am sure at some point of time, most/all of us do that, Bill.

Joli portrait, il a l'air très sérieux.
Ayush Basu: He was hard at work and probably that contributed to him being serious, Martine.
not a high ticket job but at least the demand for fruit is constant.
Ayush Basu: I am hopeful he can make a decent income, Martin.
Nice portrait, Ayush - no doubt there are many like him, just scraping a living!
Ayush Basu: I think you are right on that, Tom.

This is a hard job, you never know what you will sell over the day. This is a wonderful portrait, Ayush. It shows long days and hard work.
Ayush Basu: You are right about that, Astrid. And you just reminded me of a tendency of people (customers) to haggle with him and others like him, whereas they would pay the sticker price of overpriced articles in a supermarket or a mall without any negotiation!
this is a wonderful portrait of the fruit vendor with his classic scale Ayush....petersmile
Ayush Basu: Thank you for the comment, Peter. I thought he was a friendly and positive guy.
We do what we can. eh?
Ayush Basu: And I was just reminded me of a tendency of people (customers) to haggle with him and others like him, whereas they would pay the sticker price of overpriced articles in a supermarket or a mall without any negotiation, Mary!
Beautiful image, perfectly illustrates the situation you described
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Claudio. Normally I struggle with people shots.

I remember similar scales to those. They h=just go on for ever. These sort of carts are probably the lifeblood of the city.
Ayush Basu: Yes, nothing digital or 'smart' about this cart, Alan!
