Thean Hou 3

A parting shot of the Thean Hou. These doors are to the inner courtyard and there is a small altar, where lit joss sticks can be stuck into the pots.

Thank you, Ayush. I am a big fan of the Chinese Temple Art.
Ayush Basu: If there is an opportunity for you to travel down to the south of Thailand, perhaps you may find it worthy to stretch to the north of Malaysia (Penang) as well, Ray.

Those guardians are amazing
Ayush Basu: I found the details absorbing to look at, Chris.
I wouldn't go near it with those scary figures. smile
Ayush Basu: Wait till you see the door at night in dimly illuminated surroundings, Mary tongue

I notice that the guards also need to protect the big safe in the right hand corner.....
I do love the decorations in this temple though. So much detail.
Ayush Basu: I think that would be a donation box, Astrid. You make a good point - religious institutions usually do not seem to have much trouble appealing to devotees and raising funds.
Penang has such hidden gems that continue to astound me!
Magnifique prise de vue
Merci
Ayush Basu: Merci, Claudine. I am pleased you like it.

Looks like it could be a walk through temple.
Ayush Basu: I agree with your impression, Louis. I should have clarified in the text that I am standing in the inner courtyard, looking towards the main street.

The guardians look as though they certainly deter those with wrong thoughts. Fine colours to them.
Ayush Basu: I found the details absorbing to look at, Alan.

is there a scarecrow in there? smile
Ayush Basu: Worse..... grin
The inner doors are less impressive than the ones I saw the other day.
Ayush Basu: They do have a sequence of importance for the doors, LC. Even the main entrance, which has multiple doors, has varying panels in terms of detailing.
