HK Day3: Quarry Bay yet another one

There's got to be a lot of stories in those shoebox apartments.

Every box tells a story... smile
Ayush Basu: At least that is what I hope, Larry. I am not one to be able to freely strike up conversations with strangers, especially revolving around their homes.
Absolutely, Ayush!
Ayush Basu: None that I have to share with you all, regretfully, Elizabeth.

gobsmacked
Ayush Basu: It is rare that I am able to do that to people, Ray smile

A whole neighbourhood crammed into a small space
Ayush Basu: Hopefully they get along well with each other, Chris.
An amazing sight Ayush
Ayush Basu: It certainly was in real too, Bill.

'Shoebox apartments' is the right term - but in any case better than living outdoors - are poor people living here?
Ayush Basu: Specifically in this block, I do not know, Philine. My guess would be that if they can afford air conditioning, they are not in the poor bracket.
It's very much a modern version of were called tenament buildings over here many decades ago where the poor lived in cramped up places like this.
Ayush Basu: I suppose the demand-supply does give a strong motivation for people to live in cramped places, especially in land scarce HK. I would be sceptical that many poor live here, Brian.
Oh for a ladder and a can of paint would be part of my story.
Ayush Basu: That would be one really tall ladder and really voluminous can, Mary.
What a shot, very good Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Thank you very, Frank. A visit to this place was a bit of a highlight for me.
It looks like laundry day. A wonderful shot.
Ayush Basu: I suppose any day that is not rainy, can be a laundry day, Michael.
Absolutely, Ayush. LOTS to see in this symmetrical shot!
Ayush Basu: One can really spend a long time in the courtyard, Ginnie, rooted to the spot and looking at the exteriors of all those windows and balconies.

Shoeboxes in need of maintenance. What a view - great shot.
Ayush Basu: Shoebox apartments seemed the way to go in land scarce Hong Kong, Louis.

I notice there was originally a colour scheme of sorts here, Ayush
Ayush Basu: With such large blocks, a bit of a colour pop is most welcome, Lisl. And usually they do have something appealing.
Vivre dans un tel endroit ne doit pas etre facile tous les jours
Belle prise de vue
Ayush Basu: Unless they have very good understanding with their neighbours and are not absolutely uncompromising on their need for privacy, Claudine. Merci.

This is one of those pictures that makes me so happy in the place I love (I already do) This is a fabulous picture and the stories to be told here....
Ayush Basu: I am not one to be able to freely strike up conversations with strangers, especially revolving around their homes, Astrid. I liked this place too.

It certainly makes you ponder on the lives in the people who love there.
Ayush Basu: I am not one to be able to freely strike up conversations with strangers, especially revolving around their homes, Alan.
Not somewhere I'd care to live!
Ayush Basu: I guess one of things you do not want to hear is neighbours arguing next doors, Tom!
small apartments Ayush... little stacked up boxes....petersmile
Ayush Basu: Not much of a choice in land scarce Hong Kong, Peter.
what a great photo!! probably the people that live there don't love it as much lol
