Yap Kongsi Temple 1

Any kongsi is basically an overseas Chinese clan association. Although the main motive is commercial in nature, it is a benevolent organization for individuals with the same surname. In the historical past, this system of kongsi was employed to help assimilate migrants (usually single, young males) into new lands, overcome economic difficulty, combat oppression and provide welfare to family members of such immigrants.

This is very interesting, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Penang has a diverse array of interesting offerings, Ray.
That is an amazing building back there.
Ayush Basu: It surely catches the eye, Michael.
All that gold is so rich looking... figuratively and literally! smile Interesting info...

The sounds very worthy Ayush
Ayush Basu: This was certainly about a century ago. I assume it is still of some significance in today's times, Chris.
That is a worthy endeavour to be sure. Reminds me of the Seamen's Organization.
Ayush Basu: I am not too sure how relevant it is in today's times, but I hope it still is, Mary.
I'm presuming it is a Chinese version of a charitable cause.
Ayush Basu: The kongsis (clan associations) were very active about a century ago, Brian. I am not too sure how relevant they are today.

Sounds like a good basis for an association.
Ayush Basu: I wonder if it is as relevant today as it was a century ago, Alan.
Worthy aims!
Ayush Basu: That's what I was informed, Tom.
Ha ha... You know there are lots of Chinese in the world, strangely we don't have a lot of different surnames.
Ayush Basu: Quite right, LC.

This is a wonderful scene. The man 'mekse' the picture. Wonderful details on the temple.
Ayush Basu: I am pleased you like the temple. It is standing on the corner of a crossway and is quite unmissable in this area, Astrid.
