Blue Mansion 2

Cheong Fatt Tze (widely known as the "the Rockefeller of the East") was also a mandarin in the Manchu government. Born in 1840 in the Guangdong Province of South China, he was one of the several migrants to South East Asia and worked hard. After his marriage, he joined the work of his father-in-law and accumulated his own wealth through hard work and perseverance. Expanding in to Penang, he also built diplomatic ties with the British and the Dutch.

Toujours ce joli bleu lumineux.
Ayush Basu: The indigo has helped it become more of a recognizable landmark of Penang, Martine.

They are very attractive gates, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: They remind me of those western saloons, Ray.
Quite a spread Ayush...
Ayush Basu: Indeed so, Larry.
I love this, Ayush!
Ayush Basu: Likewise, Elizabeth. Thank you.

An intriguing view beyond the gates
Ayush Basu: I was not allowed beyond that since it is a functioning hotel and I was not a guest there, Chris.
I like the saloon style doors.
Ayush Basu: Me too, Chad. I was reminded of the western bar type doors.

Some more of the blue you promised us, Ayush
Ayush Basu: grin As long as the hotel guests do not feel the blues, Lisl!
It looks a wonderful building. I half expect John Wayne to come bursting through those doors though grin
Ayush Basu: Maybe wielding a dao, Bill.

Sounds like he did well. I did not expect to see this type of swing door; they look like something from a Wild West saloon.
Ayush Basu: He did very well indeed, Alan. I found that swinging door fascinating.
I like this type of building so much. Plus our heritage shop houses. You don't find them else where in the world. OK, in Singapore too. But we used to be a family. Ha ha...
Ayush Basu: I am always interested in the shophouses and plans to continue to use them, LC
That is very nice.
Ayush Basu: Thank you very much, Michael.

I love that indigo blue. Thank you for the write-up. I am glad you were able to get this shot. I wonder how the hotel would look from the inside...
Ayush Basu: I am pleased with your response, Astrid. Unfortunately, since I was not a guest, I was not able to make too detailed shots but a few more interiors will follow.
I especially like the red lamps against the blue, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: I imagine they would look lovely at night, Ginnie. Thank you.
Is there a magic word? Looks elvish.
Ayush Basu: I am sure credit cards or cash would open the doors just fine, Michael.

What a bold blue, indeed! I'd be interested to see what is behind those gates, too!
Ayush Basu: A very understandable reaction, Emily. I have only a couple more shots of this fascinating place though.

very interesting, there's not much wealth building going on these days from simply working hard.
Ayush Basu: Interesting observation, Elaine - thought provoking, thank you!
