Since 1882, the waterfront was used as public ferry landing jetties and also for the loading and unloading of goods. Initially they had only basic amenities (even as of my last visit, I could see an outhouse toilet with crude rectangular holes cut into the floor), but present day residents enjoy all modern comforts, including air-conditioning.
The figure seen up there on the jetty is a much more driven photographer - with serious looking equipment, a tripod and a lightmeter. He probably knows a thing or two about photography that I don't.
