Der Puppenbrunnen

In Aachen, there are several fountains and sculptures all over the city, but especially so in the city center. The above is one of them, in Krämerstrasse, a small shopping street between the Rathaus and the Cathedral. Obviously, a favorite place for tourists, Der Puppenbrunnen (The Puppet Fountain), with its many moveable parts, captivates children and adults alike. The history of Aachen is depicted by figures of a knight, his horse, a bishop, a professor, a harlequin, and various carnival masks, and finally, a crowing rooster on the top.

Wonderful street sculptures!
Ayush Basu: They are quite plentiful in Aachen, Ray.
Nice photo's, Ayush. I really like that idea - it must be fun to "bump" into them everywhere!
Ayush Basu: There are websites that line out maps with a walking trail to pin the locations. Although that takes out the chance factor of walking onto one such fountain/sculpture, Elizabeth.
Aren't these great, Ayush, you captured them very well.
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Frank. I have passed by this installation on several occasions and it is rare to not see people interacting with it in some way.

A fascinating this Ayush, the Dutch seem to love this sort of outdoor artwork
Ayush Basu: It is almost thrilling to come on to such installations every once in a while, on strolls, Chris. I think you would enjoy walking and making images in Aachen.

I like the fact that people can interact with the fountain. The second image shows the Christmas crowds.
Ayush Basu: I like that too, Alan. I lived for a while in Aachen and have passed by this installation on several occasions - it is rare to not see people interacting with it in some way.
What a fabulous piece of work. I would like to see this myself.
Ayush Basu: I think you would love walking and making images here in Aachen, Mary.
Thing like this are a delight Ayush

Ayush Basu: I used to live in Aachen for a while, Peter and I passed by this fountain often. I recall seeing almost every time people interacting with it in some way.

Ayush Basu: I agree, Larry - nicely thought out.
A gunslinger seems somewhat out of place!
Ayush Basu: You make a point, Tom!
They are wonderful. Beautiful works of art.
Ayush Basu: I agree, Michael - nicely thought out.
So crowded!
Ayush Basu: Christmas markets and their surroundings are often like that, LC.
We plan to be there for the Christmas market this year, Ayush, so I appreciate the heads up on these sculptures. WOW.
Ayush Basu: I think you WILL love walking and making images here in Aachen, together with Astrid, Ginnie.

I love it, when people do things like this in a town/city.
Ayush Basu: I agree, Louis. Now there are detailed websites to guide you exactly to each of these installations, although that perhaps removes the thrill of chance walking on to one of them.
