photoblog image Aachener Printen

Aachener Printen

Aachener Printen is a type of gingerbread from Aachen. It is supposed to be manufactured only in or around Aachen, so it is often connected intimately with the local character of Charlemagne (Karl der Grosse) - seen on two images to the left and half an image to the right. There are several varieties, as can be seen here, and I helped myself to some. I was able to detect cinnamon, cardamom, and some ginger. I imagine the exact recipes are stored in some kind of a locked vault, somewhat like the KFC recipe.

Ayush Basu: Rather vibrant, Martine. And the lights were strategically placed to make the scene striking.

Aachener Printen are really delicious, and now the time has come for baking all the sweets. Bill is right I think. A colourful, sweet picture.
Ayush Basu: I have tried two versions and they were both very good, Philine. They are not printen if they do not come from Aachen, I am told.

A very colourful display, Ayush - should sell well
Ayush Basu: There were a few shops and to the extent I could see, they had a lot of customers inside, Lisl. Whether purchasing or browsing, that is a different question.
So colourful and festive!
Ayush Basu: It made a cheerful site, LC.

A very colourful display; difficult to resist, I should think. Hopefully they have lost the key to the KFC safe smile
Ayush Basu: I just made that up about KFC, Alan. smile But I am told, it is not printen if it does not come from Aachen.
Just the stuff for Christmas!
Ayush Basu: Actually these shops sell printen all through the year, but yes, I guess it becomes more gay right in the lead up to Christmas, Tom.
That is a beautiful conglomeration of colour.
Ayush Basu: A cheerful sight to be captured, Michael.
My teeth just hurt looking at it.
Ayush Basu: I can imagine your reaction and actually, you are just about right, Michael.
It's the GINGER that grabs me every time, Ayush. I can't resist it! Astrid and I have Christmas markets in our blood by now, as you'd guess. Looking forward to seeing Brussels' in a couple of weeks!
Ayush Basu: Yes, that time is just around the corner. Have a good time there both of you, Ginnie. Looking forward to the loads of pictures from there.
