Aachener Printen is a type of gingerbread from Aachen. It is supposed to be manufactured only in or around Aachen, so it is often connected intimately with the local character of Charlemagne (Karl der Grosse) - seen on two images to the left and half an image to the right. There are several varieties, as can be seen here, and I helped myself to some. I was able to detect cinnamon, cardamom, and some ginger. I imagine the exact recipes are stored in some kind of a locked vault, somewhat like the KFC recipe.
