The larger ones could accommodate about fifty thousand and the more elaborate ones featured marble and stucco statues. A circular or oval shape was a common thread among all these constructions to create a vibrant acoustic experience, especially outdoors.

The underground vaults seem extensive, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: These exposed caverns are below the central field, Ray. I do not know how much more they exist below the walls and the seated areas.
Great patterns... it would look interesting in black and white...
Ayush Basu: You may have a good point there, Larry. Thank you.
Just incredible, isn't it?!
Ayush Basu: It sure is, Elizabeth. Time flew by in there!

kind of creepy, thinking about people long dead who's work has lived on all these years...
Ayush Basu: I have a slightly different take on that, Elaine. I would be rather pleased I suppose - I like the tangible results of my work to be around for a whilesmile

J'aime bien les différentes couleurs de la roche
Ayush Basu: Il est de l'argile et de grès, Martine.

It is ancient but skilled engineering
Ayush Basu: They did have their thinking right, Chris.
Quite an amazing structure Ayush!
Ayush Basu: I was amazed by it and my time spent there went by in a rush, Richard.
Would they have guessed their brick would last this long. Amazing how the sandstone was carved leaving these slots.
Ayush Basu: Very good observation, Mary. I did not get a closer look than this.
Wonderful reminders of ancient history aand just how skilled our ancestors were
Ayush Basu: That is a very apt assessment, Bill.
That is amazing.
Ayush Basu: Highly recommended place to visit indeed, Michael.
I think Roma Card is a great bargain. If you plan to see a lot in Rome, you have to buy one.
Ayush Basu: Yes but well, it is a done trip, LC smile Thanks for the tip though!

It's fascinating to see. The construction is just mind boggling.
Ayush Basu: I was amazed by it and my time spent there went by in a rush, Alan.
this is magnificent ancient architecture Ayush... it amazes me how they accomplished this so many years ago....petersmile
Ayush Basu: Exactly my thoughts, Peter. The structured thinking is one thing, but to actually implement it all that time ago, with whatever that was considered "cutting edge technology", is mind boggling.
they certainly knew what they were doing.
Ayush Basu: Precisely, Tom. They nailed it!
