Colosseo

Construction of the world's most well known survivng amphitheatre started in 70 AD by Vespasian, followed up by next in line Titus. It was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1990, along with all of the historical center of Rome. A ticket to the Colosseo also grants the purchaser entry to the Roman Forums, right across the ring road.

I like this dramatic "pose", Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Thank you for the comment, Ray.
That is an excellent composition.
Ayush Basu: You are very kind, Michael.

The scale of it is very impressive Ayush
Ayush Basu: I agree, Chris. I was suitably in awe.

I've never had the pleasure of seeing this for myself but this gives a very good impression. I just realised that the triangular "infills" at the end of each level are probably to stabilise the original stonework?
Ayush Basu: Thank you for pointing that out, Alan. I myself had not noticed that but your reasoning is very plausible.
One of the most recognisable places in the world Ayush
Ayush Basu: It sure is, Bill.

This is an iconic photograph!
Ayush Basu: Yes, Philine, and an angle that has perhaps been done to death. smile
World famous and as close as I will probably come.
Ayush Basu: I see much natural beauty of Canada on photos, Mary.
Oh the sky is so blue!
Ayush Basu: A clear summer sky, LC.
I've never seen it for real but it is magnificent building, they were very clever back all those centuries ago.
Ayush Basu: I agree with you, Brian.
That whole area is steeped in history...
Ayush Basu: Precisely, Larry.
I am always in awe, Ayush - and your photo does not disappoint!
Ayush Basu: This indeed is a fine spot and it was super crowded with visitors, Elizabeth. Thank you!
Once you see it with your own eyes, Ayush, you never-ever forget it! And that includes the Forums, which are magnificent.
Ayush Basu: How right you are, Ginnie. Sad to say but we missed the Forums, since the gates were closed by the time we were done with the Colosseo.

So much remaining after so long a time, Ayush
Ayush Basu: It does make us wonder of the durable technology used in the days, Lisl.

You keep excellent pictures in your archives.
Ayush Basu: You are very generous with your comments, Louis.
Great composition. Lovely deep sky too.
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Jacquelyn. A July sky in Rome.

Lovely framing and colours.
Ayush Basu: Thank you very much, CP.
Remember this trip fondly. Was this on the first day when we landed?
