Rainbow Living

It has been said that the former residents are the only ones who got as close as one can to knowing what it's like to live inside a rainbow.

Even better than the previous image of the place, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Good for the residents then, Ray. Not so drab here.
A flashy rainbow Ayush!
Ayush Basu: Thank you. And to my block is one in shades of red and pink, Richard.
I guess that would be true!!
Ayush Basu: I think the attempt was to glorify living in public housing somewhat, Elizabeth.

An interesting colour combination
Ayush Basu: No problems giving people the direction to this place, Chris.
This is like Lego for grown ups Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Actually when one flies into Singapore airport (and I recall you did), people do get the Lego impression after seeing the aerial view of blocks and blocks of residential high rises, Chad.
It would be pretty cool to see. I love colour!
Ayush Basu: This certainly has to be the most diverse colour collection in a small area, Mary.

Wow that is bright!
Ayush Basu: And to my block is one in shades of red and pink, Mike.
Good for pattern shots if not much else these days.
Ayush Basu: Thank you. And to my block is one in shades of red and pink, Brian.
You are not kidding, Ayush, an assault on your senses!
Ayush Basu: Public housing made slightly attractive, Frank. This was not the original paint scheme - applied in the late 199x.
Good for pattern shots!
Ayush Basu: Thank you. And to my block is one in shades of red and pink, Roland.

It doesn't look ready to knock down, Ayush
Ayush Basu: I suppose these blocks could have lasted some more but this is close to prime central location and this space has been deemed essential for a new expressway. So the priorities have shifted somewhat, Lisl.

Its a welcome splash of colour to what could otherwise be a drab set of buildings.
Ayush Basu: Well put. Thank you. And to my block is one in shades of red and pink, Alan.
A nice little earner for the people with the painting contract
Ayush Basu: An incisive observation, Martin.
The buildings look as if they have been iced like a huge cake!
Ayush Basu: I agree with you, Bill. And it will soon be sliced and carved away.

Love the play on lines here. great colours and easy to remember 'where you live'....
Ayush Basu: No problems giving directions to visitors, Astrid smile
Ha ha.. I wonder what would my old HDB flat look like now in Bukit Batok!
Ayush Basu: Ahaa, so you had some pretty solid and deep ties to Singapore, LC.
Such wonderful colours.
Ayush Basu: These colours were applied perhaps two decades after the construction of the blocks, Michael. I have no information if the original paint scheme was as bright (probably not, I think).

Jolies couleurs mais je n'aimerais pas habiter dans ce genre d'immeuble.
Ayush Basu: This new paint scheme was done about two decades after the initial construction, Martine. And I do not know if the residents had a say in the selection of this super vibrant scheme.
La peinture a été réalisée après la construction . Je ne dispose pas des informations si les résidents avaient le choix d'approuver les couleurs
How fun is that! I wouldn't mind living inside a rainbow, Ayush. smile
Ayush Basu: So would I! It is a pity these houses do not feature balconies, Ginnie.

Hah, on days the resident is not feeling well, they will have to keep the shades close smile
Ayush Basu: Good point, Louis. But if they are feeling down, they could just take a look at the rainbow shades!

So vibrant, and colourful! I love it. Are all the buildings like that?
Ayush Basu: Good question, Emily. The first public housing estates from the 195x were purely functional and had not much important on exterior appearances. And it was the same for these blocks built in 1977. This paint job was applied some time in the late 199x.

That is very bright!!
Ayush Basu: Oh yes, everything about this is bright: the sunlight that day, the paint job and also perhaps the settings on my camera.
