NS386 Hondekop

Or dog’s head. This is the mechanical version of man’s best friend. Built at the Utrecht Werkspoor and operated by the NS, these trains were heavy and slow to accelerate but rather steady once they reached 140kmph. This design of the front permits the driver to sit up and back, but with no compromise in the visual reach.

C'est vrai qu'on dirait une tête d'animal.
Ayush Basu: Merci beaucoup. Je suis d'accord.
I think so too, martine
It looks more robotic than dogfaced from this perspective.
Ayush Basu: Yes, I got a bit of a low angled shot to avoid the sun shining into my camera, Michael.
You boys and your trains! I really like that it looks like a little green face sticking out its red tongue!
Ayush Basu: I like your description, Elizabeth. Thank you.
Definitely looks like a dog Ayush! Great capture.
Ayush Basu: Thank you very much, Richard.
Fabulous crop of this monstrosity, Ayush. Astrid and I visited the train museum in Utrecht a couple of years ago. Was this there?
Ayush Basu: Yes, this is the Dutch Railway Museum at Utrecht. A handsome paint job wouldn't you say, Ginnie.

I think you enjoyed this visit, Ayush
Ayush Basu: It was certainly very memorable, Lisl.
If the reliability and consistency of a Dog carried over into this machine it will have lead a useful life.
Ayush Basu: I am not sure how many years/decades of service this Dog provided but I do like the sturdy look of it. Thank you, Martin.
That paint job makes it quite a striking front end.
Ayush Basu: I agree with you, Brian. Rather well maintained too.

It must have been modelled on a bull mastiff. Looks very sturdy.
Built to last, too, I imagine!
That is nice. Nothing like that around here.

I love this one. As a trainee I worked with the Dutch Railways for 6 months. It was the designing and art department where they designed trains and had the advertisement department too. I loved being there and I love trains and THIS is a good picture.
See you soon, looking forward to it smile
I don't see any dog... smile
It looks solid and sturdy.
