Klenkes

Apparently, during the city’s industrial past, Aachen (Aachen lies in Germany and right on the border with the Netherlands and Belgium) was a centre of needle manufacture. Quality workers in the factories used to test the finished needles by a flick of their little fingers. Today it has become an informal greeting among Aacheners (or “Öchers”).

Muscular, well-exercised pinkies n evidence, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: In other parts of the world, the interpretation may be slightly different, Ray.

A splendid mixture of buildings ancient and modern Ayush
Ayush Basu: I agree, Chris.
I quite like the modern/ancient contrast here Ayush! Very nice capture.
Ayush Basu: I think it is a good thing that the planners took that road. Thank you very much, Richard

That's very interesting, Ayush.

Wonderful statue reflecting the history.
Ayush Basu: Thank you very much, Pauline
A fine picture of Klenkes Ayush, with the sculpure and mirror wall
Ayush Basu: Thank you very much, Janet.
Thanks for this Ayush, a nice memory of spending several days in this fine town back in 1966. Did you visit the Dom (cathedral) at all?
Ayush Basu: Oh yes, Brian. In the year 2008, I was in Aachen for about a year and my residence at that time was walking distance from the Dom. I would assume that there have not been drastic areas in the city centre area since 1966

Thank you for the education, I did not know. Great sculpture. Love the overview of the square.
Ayush Basu: Thank you for the comment, Astrid. This gesture is now, I think, a gesture for the "insiders".
The fun things we learn here at SC, Ayush!
Ayush Basu: That is one of the key things I look forward to, Ginnie, on SC.

What an interesting piece of history Ayush
Ayush Basu: I am pleased to see your reaction, Anne.
Very interesting factoids.
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Mary. I hope you enjoyed the general atmosphere of this place.
That statue reminds me of dancers!!
Ayush Basu: The resemblance is certainly there, Elizabeth.

I lovely scene with the contrasting architectural styles.
Ayush Basu: Yes, isn't it? I think they spared some additional thought in the planning of the city centre.
