photoblog image Regional train

Regional train

An off duty Stadler diesel unit.

Despite the sunny weather, it was fairly uncomfortable owing to strong winds. This was late March-early April but I had a runny and numb nose (not a good combination if you're meeting people).

A lovely photo. So many details to draw the eye in different directions.

A photo that requires multiple visits to explore all the details within the photo.
Ayush Basu: I liked the way you put it, CP. Thank you.

Everything looks clean, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: It does look that way, doesn't it...
That sure looks great with that beautiful sky.
Ayush Basu: I agree with you, Michael. Thank you.

This place has an air of efficiency about it
Ayush Basu: You are right about that, Chris.
So clean and neat Ayush! Great perspective.
Ayush Basu: Thank you very much, Richard.
I love that description of your nose. I know it personally.
Ayush Basu: I have been accorded the sobriquet of Rudolph (the red nosed reindeer), Mary. smile
You had the place to yourself Ayush. Great shot into the distance
Ayush Basu: Thank you Janet, the other passengers were waiting in some enclosed spaces to get out of the wind, I suppose.
I like the composition and perspective here Ayush, apart from the railway in general as well of course.
Ayush Basu: Thank you very much, Brian.
You never feel you best with a cold. They are so pointless! Another good pic
Ayush Basu: I did not have a cold in that sense, Bill. It was just the breathing in of the numbingly cold air that left my nose senseless and leaky. I received the sobriquet of Rudolph (the red nosed reindeer).
Great pov, Ayush - Veolia has lots of contracts for rubbish collection in the UK!
Ayush Basu: I think they are big there in that part of the world; they are also present in some of the west German towns, Tom.
a nice vanishing point...
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Larry.

I love this view. I have to admit I never heard of that regional train. Where I live, we have Arriva. I think it is good that they keep these companies going. A lot of students take these trains to go to school and like with at work, 80% of the people come from Rotterdam to work by local trains..
LOVE the vanishing point and I am sorry to hear about the nose... I know that the wind can be 'to the bone cold'....
Ayush Basu: Around the time I was there in the Netherlands, I was told by a colleague about a news report, where a bicyclist lost control and fell into a pond!
Oh I think Venlo has Arriva too. But if I am not mistaken, the ticket system is not integrated into one another. Meaning, you need to know which train operator you are about to travel on and buy the right ticket, because the validation machines are different. And I agree these trains provide a great service because I know that sometimes students and working folk commute from nearby towns.

It all looks very clean and well maintained. Veolia is a name is a name I'm familiar with in the UK; they manage our rubbish disposal in Hampshire!
Ayush Basu: Far away here in Singapore too, one of the companies is Veolia (I suppose sister company or something of that sort). If I am not mistaken, these trains travel up and down in the region, including across the border to Germany.
Their platform is so spacious!
Ayush Basu: This is beyond their main platform, LC. It is not cluttered with newsstands, washrooms and other structures.
