photoblog image May Day

May Day

Istana,"palace" in Malay, is the official residence and office of President Tony Tan, the seventh President of Singapore. This is where he hosts state guests. Located in an otherwise urbanised setting, it has large and well kept grounds. It started off as the official home of the British governor. Today, it is opened to the public on designated public holidays, May 1 (Labour Day) being one of them.

This emblem is on the front gate.

Beautiful gates too Ayush.

Tony Tan does not really sound presidential enough wink Our Buckingham Palace is very grand but otherwise in an urban setting (albeit upmarket).
Ayush Basu: Now that you put it that way, you do have something in your observation, Alan. This area is also rather upmarket; renting ten square feet of retail space nearby will set you back every month by thousands of dollars.
Interesting that they have kept the lions smile
Ayush Basu: Since they shot all the live ones, Tom!
Can you take pictures inside the Istana?
Ayush Basu: Not inside the actual palace, but on the grounds, yes
Fierce creatures...
Ayush Basu: Indeed, Larry. Apologies for the delayed reply.
