How to shoot Squash (or not) - 2

Lesson two: speed.

I found that any shot below a speed of 1/600 could be deleted right away. Squash is one of the fastest (most frantic) sport I had to shoot. And I have not seen more competitve 4 men in close proximity (unless one thinks of MMA).

Above is a shot from Team Philippines v/s Team Thailand, doubles.

Well, Ayush, I think you are doing remarkably well!
Ayush Basu: You are seeing the comparatively better shots that don't stink, Ray grin
And you did so well with the timing Ayush!
Ayush Basu: You are very generous with your comment, Richard. Thank you

I would have thought 1/1000 was about right
Ayush Basu: I concur, Chris. A challenge in balancing the exposure and sharpness of the action.
It can be quite exhausting too Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Oh yes, people dripping sweat ten minutes in to the game despite the air conditioning being on full blast, Chad

You conquered the speed, Ayush
Ayush Basu: Thanks to the camera body, I am still getting used to it, Lisl
I only ever played squash once and swore never again grin
Ayush Basu: That's another thing then that you and I have in common, Bill smile
Squash is bad enough with two on the court! This could be dangerous...smile
Ayush Basu: I would probably manage to run head-on right into the bat of my opponent grin
Didn't see any collisions (which would be the first injury that comes to my mind), but I saw some of them making extreme lunges to return shots and I do not think my knees could sustain that!
I don't think I've ever seen 4 person Squash before.
Ayush Basu: It was a first for me too, Brian.
Squash is actually quite dangerous, he he wink
I prefer badminton.
Ayush Basu: Didn't see any collisions (which would be the first injury that comes to my mind), but I saw some of them making extreme lunges to return shots and I do not think my knees could sustain that! grin
Good for you, Ayush, to tackle this with your camera. I bet it was as hard as learning to play good squash!
Ayush Basu: It probably comes close, Ginnie tongue Thank you

Wow are there not too many people on the court, people will get hurt (joke)
I know, this is a sports for fanatics, I will enjoy the series!!
Great series so far.
Ayush Basu: Thank you very much, Astrid. Contestants playing in air conditioned courts were dripping sweat ten minutes into the game!
Nice action, Ayush!
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Martin
A very good shot!
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Roland

They are about to explode into movement and squeaking shoes.
Ayush Basu: They did exactly that, Louis. This is a high intensity work out.

I've never played but I know it's a fast game so it needs a very fast shutter to freeze the action. Good work!
Ayush Basu: Players in air conditioned courts would be dripping sweat in ten minutes, Alan! Thank you for the comment.
I never played foursomes - the game was dangerous enough with just two on the court! Great game though.
Ayush Basu: I do agree it is a terrific workout, Tom. Didn't see any collisions (which would be the first injury that comes to my mind), but I saw some of them making extreme lunges to return shots and I do not think my knees could sustain that!

I should imagine the lighting adds to the difficulties.
Ayush Basu: Interesting observation was that since my shutter was very fast, I could catch the flicker of the cycles of the fluorescent lamps!
Nice.
neat shot, i can see the ball speeding toward him, but other than that, totally crisp.. well done
The sport may be fast paced, but they all look pretty still next to the ball.
A fast game indeed...
Yes, I would think a very high shutter speed would be required! No doubt they are lightning fast!
