Interaction

Mostly one sided affair though. The kid had obviously never seen anything like this before and proceeded to flatten her nose on the plate glass to view the other subject. The latter was content to trawling back and forth, kicking up enormous clouds of mud which would settle down in a minute or so. Closely pursuing would be schools of tiny fish (not the large one seen in the background) that were busy nibbling on the hide of the pygmy hippo.

What a view she has! I didn't know one could actually see a pygmy hippo behind glass.
Ayush Basu: I didn't know there were pygmy hippos, Jacquelyn!
That is some intense concentration.
Ayush Basu: She was really fascinated, Michael.

I have some news for you, Ayush...that "mud" is actually not mud, but pygmy hippo guano.

Fine shot, though, and lovely anecdote.
Ayush Basu: Ah yes, of course.
I think without the girl, perhaps I would not have taken this image, Ray. Thank you.

now i need to know how long hippos can stay under water... really neat pic!
Ayush Basu: Oh well this one was quite comfortable down below but I did not really time him, Elaine. He was not that deep too.
This is such a precious shot, Ayush!!! Well done!
Ayush Basu: Thank you very much for the generous comment, Elizabeth.

A delight for children of all ages, Ayush!
Ayush Basu: Most definitely. I was not even aware that there is such a creature called pygmy hippo.

I bet you were transfixed as well, Ray
Ayush Basu: It was quite interesting, Lisl, watching the pygmy hippo (my first time actually)
You can imagine the wonder in her face Ayush
Ayush Basu: Oh yes, she and many others. I was not even aware there is such a creature as the pygmy hippo.

It must be interesting to see the hippo busy under the water.
Ayush Basu: The hippo burned off a fair number of calories, Louis.

This is adorable. I remember when we used to go to the zoo on school trips (or even as a child with my parents) and it was always a fun and memorable experience.
Ayush Basu: You are quite right, it was memorable and enjoyable. The little girl really added much to the image and without her I perhaps may not have taken it at all, Emily.
A charming shot, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Thank you very much for the generous comment, Frank
