photoblog image The Green Corridor

The Green Corridor

The ‘Green Corridor’ is an uninterrupted stretch of greenery and woodlands that runs the entire length of Singapore, from the old Tanjong Pagar Rail Station in the south-central area to the border of Malaysia in the north. Once the beginning of a rail network that was possible to take all the way to Thailand, this incredible stretch of ecological and culturally significant land has taken on a different mantle in Singapore.

This shot is taken from the second level and shows some of the buildings that house technology firms and incubation centres. The railway line passed behind me on the ground floor.

Looks like a great idea...
Ayush Basu: I hear there is something like that in Atlanta, Georgia as well, Larry
It is good to have green!
Ayush Basu: And it passes very close by to my place, Bill.
A beautiful window on this great initiative Ayush!

A very good idea Ayush
Ayush Basu: Here the conservationists and proponents were able to mobilize their support rapidly, Chris.

that looks fake lol weird... like one of those architectural models
Ayush Basu: Could it be because of the distortion caused by the wide angle lens, Elaine?
The Island Trail goes all through PEI and is on the old rail bed. It is wonderful and well used.
Ayush Basu: Pleased to hear that Mary, I recall there will be/was something like that in Atlanta in the US

Rail is taking a beating in a few SE Asian countries, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Definitely, Ray. There is a talk of a high speed rail corridor from Singapore to KL, but that's all it is: talk.
What an excellent idea, over here it would have been built on by now, our government and local authorities don't seem to want green areas any more.
Ayush Basu: Here the conservationists and proponents were able to mobilize their support rapidly, Brian. I am sure that helped.
The buildings look so tall here.
Ayush Basu: They are probably in the range of 35-40 floors, Jacquelyn.
It's looking great!
Have a nice week end!

Ayush Basu: Thank you very much, Gil.
