Airport Line

A street shot in Kolkata, this elevated gantry shows the rapid transit line from the city to Kolkata airport. Once work on the rest of the line is completed, southern Kolkata will have a rapid link to the northern districts and onwards to the airport.

the cities are getting so clogged up Ayush that they have to build the transit lines above the streets... good shot....petersmile
Ayush Basu: I am all for it Peter, provided they keep the politics out of it and let the relevant people run it.
Nicely shot.
Ayush Basu: Appreciate your comment Michael
I like the converging lines Ayush!
Ayush Basu: This road actually rises up to meet a flyover hence the converging lines. Thank you Richard, for the visit and comment.
With a rapidly growing population they must need all the transport links they can build
Ayush Basu: In the metros, they need to deal not just with population growth but migration from rural areas too, Bill

Very nice too, rapid transit, as the name suggests, is a very good thing for places wishing to evolve into something better
Ayush Basu: It remains to be seen how effective and efficient this system will be Chris

Ha Ha

I tried to catch the train from The Airport to the city on that elevated line a couple of years ago, Ayush...my bad luck to try to do it on a day when there was a general transprt strike and no trains were running at all.
Ayush Basu: I know, I was thinking of you while taking this shot, Ray.
Very nice lines, in this Ayush!
Ayush Basu: Thank you for the comment Elizabeth.
This needs to be happening in America right now, Ayush!!!
Ayush Basu: I think it is applicable to every metropolitan city in the world, Ginnie

Many airports now have developed such systems to help improve links to the city centre. I use the Vancouver on a stopover from the US on the way home and can get into the city centre in 25 minutes.
Ayush Basu: Yes, you're right Alan, and they are sorely needed in Indian metros.

Great shot Ayush, the flying train track.
Ayush Basu: It is to help the train gather momentum and take off, Chad
Wow, that is ugly. But a necessary convenience for obvious reasons.
Ayush Basu: Haha, I suppose aesthetics was not high on their priority list for the time being Michael. Thank you for the comment.
Where would we be without concrete
Ayush Basu: Valid observation, John, thank you for the comment.
Calcutta must be a big city!
Ayush Basu: It is big on several levels LC! Thank you

What I find most interesting, is that the only evidence of human activity, is that I know there must be someone to have pressed the button. And this in a well populated country.
Ayush Basu: Personally speaking, I did not find it tthat difficult to look for deserted spots. Just do not go around looking in the morning and evening rush hours, Louis grin
loving the series so far Ayush!
Interesting, Ayush. Personally I always like a dedicated airport link. The Swiss have great ones.
I like all the lines, Ayush!
I guess that an elevated track is the only way to go!
