CH23: Cable car from Grindelwald to Männlichen summit

This is the cable car from Grindelwald to Männlichen [we did not take the cogwheel train featured in the previous post]. It was quite an unreal feeling, moving silently up, above the ground. Stunning mountains to be seen in the distance with pine woods and lush meadows down below, both in equal measure. The cable cars are good for a maximum of four people, so it was a cozy affair inside.

Below is a close-up.

I am loving this Armchair Tour, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Thank you for the reassuring comment Raysmile
What gorgeous vistas Ayush! I'd love to take this ride. Our ski lift is a much shorter trip, no doubt!
Ayush Basu: Oh this one is about half an hour long. But I really lost track of time really. Thanks for the comment Elizabeth.

What a wonderful way to see everything
Ayush Basu: My nose was to the glass for a long time of this journey Chris

I know what you mean about the quiet of the cable cars;even more pronunced in the chair lifts. I like the sense of height in the second picture
Ayush Basu: I do not think I could find it in me to get into a chair lift. Just the thought of seeing below my dangling feet gives a funny turn in my stomach grin Thank you for the comment Elizabeth
Great pictures, wonderful views smile Regards
Ayush Basu: Thank you for the warm comment
You wouldn't get my Ange up in one of these Ayush grin
Ayush Basu: Once the gondola took off, I myself had a feeling that this was a mistakegrin But I think I got over it in about 5 minutes and enjoyed the other 25. Tip for you: just bundle Angie into one of these. Tip for Angie: anywhere outside she looks, is fine. Just tell her to avoid looking down at the really tiny shadow cast by your gondola on the grassy ground. That is the only thing to avoid tongue

That was (and may well still be) the longest gondala ride in Europe. With just the occasional clatter of the wheels as it goes over the pylon, it's a fabulous way to enjoy that scenery.
Ayush Basu: I am not aware of the current standing. But I quite lost track of time in there. And you are quite right about that minor lurch over the pylons, Alan.
This cable car lines seem to be endless Ayush! Superb perspective.
Ayush Basu: They are certainly quite long. But the ride was thoroughly enjoyable, every second of it.

I can just imagine the transformation of this scene in Winter Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Very true. This is supposed to be very popular for skiing, Chad.
The hills are alive!
Ayush Basu: Not to mention the cows and goats smile
This is such a lovely way to have tour, Ayush. That scenery is incredible.
Ayush Basu: Thank you Pauline, it was a memorable ride
Looks like a great ride Ayush
Ayush Basu: Very much so. Thank you CM

Ayush Basu: Probably not the first reaction I was hoping to elicit tongue But thank you very much, yes the views were magnificent.

We took a similar ride at Whiteface Mountain, (NYS) a couple of years ago. Loved it! Whole different experience. Enjoying your view(s).
Ayush Basu: Thank you for the info. I didn't know of that. And thank you for visiting grin

You certainly need a head for heights on this journey, I would not feel safe in that little car, if it started swinging I would be really scared smile Maybe the views we are seeing would be worth it smile
Ayush Basu: To be honest, when the car left the station and the ground started to fall lower below us, I did have a couple of fist clenching moments tongue It settled down in a while though.
Excellent shots, Ayush! The views look to be breathtaking from those cable cars. How long does the ride take?
Ayush Basu: About half an hour altogether I think? Thank you Beverly
It looks like a great scenic trip,Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Very much so Frank. Thank you
Fine pictures Ayush, although it goes without saying I would have taken the train.
Ayush Basu: Thank you Brian. The trains, themselves and the countryside they go through, are thoroughly worth taking.
A great way to get the views, always wish there were openable windows to avoid shooting through glasssmile
Ayush Basu: Oh yes, I have the same grievance grin
Very nicely shot.

I see the cable masts are installed to lean forward. I can imagine that the position may be less stressful under load.
Beautiful images. Gorgeous mountains.
Greetings.
