photoblog image UAE 2: Camel

UAE 2: Camel

Another icon for the Bedouin of UAE. The camel is an animal that is superbly adapted to a life in the desert. Large, padded feet ensure it does not sink into the sand and can walk effortless. Providing mobility to the nomads, the camel is also a source of milk for nomadic families and meat for social occasions. Camel beauty pagents and camel races are wildly popular in the UAE. The long eye lashes seen here help to keep sand out from the eyes during sandstorms.

They are most impressive animals...the largest population of camels is now the feral ones that live in central and NW Australia.
Ayush Basu: Impressive is right Ray. I've got to look up about camels in Australia
great image Ayush... i believe that without the Camels... the silk road wouldn't have existed....petersmile
Ayush Basu: Thank you very much for the comment and your input Peter
The "ship of the Desert" Amazing animals so perfectly adapted to their environment
Ayush Basu: Yes, "ship of the desert"... this reminds me of the notion a lot of people have that the hump actually contains water rather than fat which is synthesize when required

He he this camel is wearing his hat incorrectly Ayush.
Ayush Basu: grin I knew I could count on you to enlighten the rest with some spot on observation
Is the mouth clothing to keep the camel from spitting or biting or is this the beauty pageant?
Ayush Basu: i know that this was not a pageant and the camels did not appear to be in a foul mood. i confess i do not have the entirely satisfying answer to your good question.
It certainly looks a bit of a character with the hat over its mouth.
Ayush Basu: Then you should have seen the languor in its stride with passengers "on board"grin
He he fine and original portrait Ayush!
Excellente composition, bon week-end wink
A lovely photo. I feel a bit sorry for him having to wear that over his mouth though.
Interesting shot... Why is his nose and mouth covered? Sand storm protection maybe?
An interesting and unusual shot, Ayush.
Does that keep him from spitting at you?
Amazing animals aren't they! Great portrait of him!!
