photoblog image Stone Mountain

Stone Mountain

This is what is known as a relief, on one particular face of the Stone Mountain, Georgia. I had to look it up on the 'net to know what it all means. Basically, a kind of sculpture, it saves having to work on the rear of objects. Instead of actually working on the main part, the background is chiselled away so that the eroded surface forms the new background and the untouched part represents the object.

Judging from this scene, a lot of material had to be removed. This shot was taken in December. I am told that in warmer months, there is a laser show, projected onto the wall.

Great capture Ayush! I like the coloring and the angle of this pic.
Exceptional find! Love the composition.
now there's something you don't see every day!
Great shot Ayush! I've always found this bas relief amazing- the scale of it alone is incredible! Although the Civil War was an incredibly despicable event - my Dad has taught me to respect the soldier. And here we have two of the best: Robert E Lee & Stonewall Jackson (the third man is President Jefferson Davis- who should've ended it all).

And it has a ready-made "stand" to show it off, Ayush

Oh yes, Ayush, I have seen a laser show there in the summertime years ago. This carving is so large there was a place where the workers actually ate a meal in it someplace. HA!
That is quite something Ayush!

The relief makes a beautiful picture, there against the mountain. I wonder how big the chisel was smile
What a fantastic piece of work. Glad you brought it to us.
What an amazing find, this must have taken a lot of very skilful work.
Amazing, great shot !
This is quite an impressive sculpture Ayush! Great capture.
I assume it portrays Washington crossing the Delaware smile
