The Declaration of Independence Memorial was officially opened in 1985. The establishment of this memorial is to commemorate the sacrifice of the freedom fighters that culminated in the declaration of independence on 31 August 1957. On display are a variety of materials such as documents, pictures, souvenirs, newspaper articles, official regalia and ceremonial kris. Two armored vehicles named after Hang Jebat and Hang Tuah [previously mentioned] are on display. From an architectural standpoint, this monument is said to be a mixture of local Malay and British trends. Originally this building was the Club Melaka (Malacca Club) which was built in 1911.
