photoblog image Gereja St. Francis Xavier

Gereja St. Francis Xavier

This twin spired neo-gothic structure was built in 1856 to honour St. Francis Xavier, a 16th-century missionary who extensively worked in Asia for spread of Catholicism. It is located on Jalan Laksamana. It is said to be modelled after the Cathedral of St. Peter in Montpellier, France. Having been around for more than a century, the church’s building is said to be now leaning slightly to the left. It wasn't obvious to me, however.

Except in Philippines, Ayush, it seems Roman Catholicism exists as a minor sect in SE Asia.

You have chosen a fine setting for this piece.
I love the colors!!!

Very nice Ayush: it does have a slight air of having been plonked down there from another continent I must agree

It looks like your bridge afforded you a great vantage point for this beauty, Ayush!

Well composed and I agree that the church's looks seem foreign to the area.
Out of place it may look but I would love to go and have a look inside.

It does rather stand out in among the other buildings.
