Streets of Kolkata

Seen here are some road side shops and 'mom-and-pop' stores, that were propbably around since before the advent of malls and large scale shopping complexes. I am sure their margins have dropped significantly in recent years. Yet, for millions of Indians, these shops are an economic source of their essential requirements. On a value-for-money scale, some gastronimical items [chicken rolls, chowmein and potato chops to name a few] are actually rated higher when compared to those from boutique eateries and highly regarded restaurants.

I wandered about in the dark for hours...lost in the lanes near Kalighat Temple, and these food vendors were a constant, calming, companion. It was a day of taxi strike, so there were no Ambassador cabs to rescue me.

Great shot of a typical urban Kolkata street at night, Ayush.

If these sorts of stores vanish the place will be all the poorer for it Ayush
I certainly agree that the food stands probably have the best food. Excellent shot!
You have captured this street scene beautifully Ayush

Absolute wonderful shot. It shows a lot of the culture. I love the pulled rickshaws.

A very social scene. The guy from the Castrol shop is wondering how he will sell to the rickshaw guys.
Fascinating glimpse of a way of life Ayush

It's businesses like this that are a life line both to the owners and perhaps to the shoppers.
Wonderful night street scene. I love the atmosphere!
Nice feel to this
I feel as if I could step right into this scene, Ayush. You've captured the atmosphere in expert form.
