Mall Culture

If the glitz of shopping malls was an indicator of a nation's economic health, then India has truly arrived. This mall, also in Kolkata, is in no respect lesser than those in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Manila.

Which brings me to the next part: with the same dazzling array of clothing and apparel stores, telecommunication kiosks and cineplexes, cities seem to lose their identity. At least from within these airconditioned confines.

I agree with your argument, Ayush, and this is one reason why shopping malls are among my least liked places.
I agree - I try to avoid the malls, and shop the locally owned boutiques!

If the identity is that of squalid circumstances, it will be OK to lose it. It is actually nice to see this kind of development, but I bet the Ganges still bears off the bodies of the dead.
When I see places like this, shopping on the internet becomes even more appealing grin
Busy, busy, busy!
A striking picture of.....anywhere.
You are so right, Ayush. They all seem to be identical, no matter what city you are in.
... still ... a great mall shot.
