Durga Puja aka Navratri

In Kolkata, as also in the province of West Bengal, Durga Puja is wildly popular. Here is a general view of the idols. The characters are Lord Ganesha [the lord of all things auspicious], Goddess Lakshmi [goddess of wealth], Goddess Durga [a particularly fierce goddess almost always depicted with ten arms], Goddess Saraswati [goddess of learning and arts] and Lord Karthik [god of warfare]. The green one is the Demon Mahishasura.

Unfortunately the light was not that evenly shining. The shadowy character on the right is the priest, gathering the requirements before the evening prayers.

Colourful and informative post, Ayush...nice one!
The colors are still quite rich, despite the lighting - I kind of like that the priest is a "shadowy character".

The 3 goddesses have very big eyes, looking cat-like fierce. Very colourful.
Makes me think about something my sister in law talk about. Love the work.
That's quite a sight Ayush, great capture.
It is a beautiful set of idols Ayush.
I like the green one. Looks like he enjoys life smile
An incredible piece - and a good shot to show it off!

Thank you for pointing out this picture to me.
An amazing scene and I can see the importance of this goddess.
Ayush Basu: You're most welcome Astrid, my pleasure as well to share something interesting
