They were skilled horsemen and gained a reputation for excellent archery. They were no strangers to guerilla warfare techniques. The above relief shows them riding away from hostile people, giving the impression that they were retreating, when suddenly they would turn around on their mounts and send arrows raining backwards. The adversaries having lowered their guard watching their 'retreat', would fall to these arrows. After a while, the Scythians would return to the main battle.
