photoblog image Pisa Duomo Interior

Pisa Duomo Interior

The square patterned coffer ceiling as seen on the right was replaced after a fire in the 16th century. I was surprised to know that Pisa used to have its own calendar; their New Year was determined during the day time, when at one particular moment, some day in the year, the sunshine would enter from one specific window and fall right on the pulpit.

Another shot from the archives.

very impressive!!!
I didn't know that about the Pisa Duomo and it's own calendar - very curious! I like very much how you framed this, so you can see the coffer ceiling, as well as the Duomo, and that amazing chandelier!
Ayush Basu: Thanks Elizabeth! Unfortunately to get this shot in the low light, I had to select a very wide aperture.

The chandelier could also be a steering for a Friday Boat.

Very interesting info.
Ayush Basu: Unbeatable Boat Friday spirit, to work out that connection Louis smile Thanks for stopping by.

I'm glad you're not supertitious, Ayush, because I'd sure hate to see this fall on you today! smile
Ayush Basu: I would hate that too smile I suppose photographers (even amateur ones) are sometimes risking life and limbs, just a little bit tongue
Must have caused problems on a cloudy day grin
Ayush Basu: Complete haywire Bill!

A very good point of view. I think that many places had their own calendars and times. Even in the UK, until the railways came, Bristol was on a different time to that of London

Love the strong graphic elements in this, Ayush. The deep colors and all the textures - this must be a beautiful print.

Ayush Basu: thanks a bunch Sharon
