The square patterned coffer ceiling as seen on the right was replaced after a fire in the 16th century. I was surprised to know that Pisa used to have its own calendar; their New Year was determined during the day time, when at one particular moment, some day in the year, the sunshine would enter from one specific window and fall right on the pulpit.
