Frankfurt am Main is the transportation hub of Germany. Indeed, the Frankfurt International Airport is the base of the national carrier (Lufthansa) and the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof) is the busiest in Europe. It is centrally located in Germany from a geographic point of view and is an established centre of commerce and finance. Seen here is a panorama of Frankfurt with the River Main. It was a gloomy winter day, hence perhaps the quiet, oppressive atmosphere.
