The Central Business District presently contains the core financial and commercial districts of Singapore . This area is more densely packed than other parts of Singapore and has a high concentration of skyscrapers built on reclaimed land. By regulation, skyscrapers cannot go higher than 280 metres in Singapore .
This picture is taken from the rooftop of the Esplanade Theatres, offering a good view of the skyscrapers. Just a little in front of the buildings is the Fullerton Hotel. On the right is part of the dome of Esplanade Theatre (affectionately sometimes referred to as the Durian). Right ahead is the canopy of an open air stage where free concerts are held frequently to showcase local talents.
Obviously, real estate is expensive and already crowded CBD rentals are in the jaw-dropping vicinity. To ease off these pressures, Marina Bay Financial Centre is being developed rapidly (as seen on the left in this photo). Once ready in 2012, MBFC is expected to add significant square-feet of office and retail space.
