photoblog image Lotus Gate

Lotus Gate

The City Palace is a complex of vast array of courtyards, gardens and buildings. The palace was built between 1729 and 1732, initially by Sawai Jai Singh II. The architects fused elements of Shilpa Shastra with Rajput and Mughal influences. The gateways are richly decorated. This gate with its overlapping petal patterns opens unto the courtyard in front of the Chandra Mahal.

PS - for some reason, my last post was a huge hit in Tunisia. I think some others have noticed that as well  Thank you, Astrid, for the heads-up!

This is a wonderful arch and it is worth it to look up...what great designs here.
(You are welcome, Ayush. Ginnie and Louis were a hit too and you never know what they have up their sleeve...)
Ayush Basu: Thank you very much for the remark, it really is a thing of great beauty, Astrid.
This is a gorgeous photo - I love your POV for this!
Frank noticed the Tunisians... funny!
Ayush Basu: I was trying to cram in as much as I could of the details, Elizabeth.
That is quite doorway, Ayush. Yes, Tunisia, apparently they think I need plastic surgery....:-(
Ayush Basu: I just wanted to capture all that I could of the details on this portal, Frank. Amazing that they attempt to lighten one's wallet in that mode of employment.
Magnifique cette porte, et le Lotus qui l'orne au dessus, quelle merveille artistique !
Bonne journée
Ayush Basu: It really makes one stop in their tracks, Pascale. Thank you for the comment.
Now THAT is a gate, Ayush. WOW. (And yes, I think maybe the spamsters finally got the message from John?)
Ayush Basu: Yes, Ginnie, I hope it was a one-off thing.

I love the angle of this Ayush, the pattern around the door looks like an explosion.
Ayush Basu: It was a massive doorway and I wanted to get a bit closer to the details, Chad.

From the Köln synagogue to the Lotus Gate in one click. Great decorations above the door.

I think there is a Tunisian plastic surgeon with a lot of time on his hands.
Ayush Basu: I have to admire the dedication and attention to detail on part of the artisans, Louis.
There's some wonderful artistry in that work. (The Tunisian remarks lasted a matter of minutes in my blog!!!)
Ayush Basu: I was suitably impressed by their (the artisans) work, Brian.
Impressive dome door, the summit seems to flee to the outside
Ayush Basu: I imagine my choice of the view increases that feel, Claudio.
They are gorgeous. So intricate.
Ayush Basu: I have to admire the dedication and attention to detail on part of the artisans, Michael.

The odd door lock towards the top of the door caught my attention . I especially like the decoration around the door frame, though.
Ayush Basu: One would have to be fairly tall (or have a stool nearby), I imagine, Alan.
Wow, so intricate!
Ayush Basu: Amazing, aren't they?

What an impressive gate - and thank you for your competent information!
I got the mails from Tunesia, too, I informed John about those 'comments' and deleted them as spams. There are some SC posts which are only advertising posts.
Ayush Basu: I have to admire the dedication and attention to detail on part of the artisans, Philine. I deleted the unnecessary comments from Tunisia.
